We started our day in Phu Quoc with a little culture and curiosity before diving into the more playful parts of Grand World. In the morning, we visited a pearl museum and a local silk manufacturing centre both educational stops that surprised us in the best way.
At the pearl museum, we learned about how pearls are cultivated in Phu Quoc’s waters. Georgia was fascinated watching the demonstration of how pearls are delicately removed from oysters. The showroom itself was shiny and tempting, but we weren’t there to shop, that is until Ali decided we were… and I thought it was just to show the kids where pearls come from and enjoy the process.
Next, we stopped by a silk production workshop, where we watched as silk worms were spun into threads and eventually woven into fabric. It was genuinely fascinating and surprisingly hands on even the we had a go at feeling and pulling raw silk. One of the staff proudly told us that Vietnam is among the top 5 silk producers in the world, something we didn’t know before the visit, he repeated that a lot!
Onto Grand World and the Teddy Bear Museum
After our cultural morning, we made our way to Grand World, known for its architecture and vibrant canal system. We wandered across the charming bridges and soaked in the quirky Venice vibes. It’s totally walkable and pushchair friendly, and we found plenty of shady spots to pause and let the kids explore.
The Teddy Bear Museum was a big hit. With themed zones, interactive displays, and a charming storyline following “Teddy Jones” on his travels, it was a winner for both Dotty and Georgia. It’s bright, cool, and wonderfully photogenic everything a family could want in a museum. (Though lots of adults rushed through, I think they missed the point)
After the museum, we took a leisurely stroll around the canals, had a lovely lunch in a shaded spot with fans, and later grabbed a late coffee while the girls played in a nearby outdoor play area. It was peaceful, scenic, and low key win.
It was a perfectly balanced day a bit of culture, a bit of play, and a whole lot of memory making. Grand World might be flashy on the outside, but with the right pace and focus, it’s full of surprising gems.
