Travel Experience
Our journey to Halkidiki was as smooth as the Aegean waters that awaited us. We opted for a flight to Thessaloniki, followed by a scenic drive to our resort in Provlita. The winding roads and breathtaking coastal views set the tone for the adventure ahead. Arriving at our family-friendly hotel, we were immediately struck by the warm welcome and the extensive amenities tailored for both children and adults.
The hotel was more than just accommodation; it was a place of joy and comfort. Pools of every size and depth catered to our diverse needs – a serene oasis for adults, a fun-filled paradise for toddlers, and a lively aquatic playground for children, all nestled in lush greenery. We knew instantly that this was going to be a memorable stay.
Places We Visited
Provlita Town and Pier
Wandering down into the town at the heart of Provlita, we discovered the small pier’s charm. This picturesque spot was reminiscent of a scene from a traditional Greek tale, with the gentle rhythm of the waves and fishermen’s conversations adding to the serenity. The clear waters near the pier, revealing the sea’s hidden splendours, invited us to immerse ourselves in nature’s embrace. The children were fascinated by the colourful fish swimming around the pier, making it a perfect spot for an impromptu marine biology lesson.
Vourvourou Kayaking and Hidden Beach
Our adventure took an exciting turn in Vourvourou. Georgia and Ali set off on a magical kayaking journey, paddling through surreal, crystal-clear waters. They reached a secluded island and indulged in snorkelling, surrounded by a vibrant underwater world. Meanwhile, Dottie and I stumbled upon a hidden beach, a serene cove embraced by trees providing cool shelter from the 35° sun. This secluded spot offered a quiet respite where we played in the sea and sand for a few hours until it was time to collect Ali and Georgia. The sense of discovery and the natural beauty of Vourvourou made it a highlight of our trip.
Waterland Water Park
Every day, the hotel’s splash park was a world of adventure for us all. However, our visit to Waterland Water Park in Thessaloniki was a special highlight. The kids’ laughter echoed as they explored water slides, wave pools, and playful fountains, creating joyful summer memories. Waterland’s various attractions catered to all ages, making it a fun-filled day for the entire family. It was hard not to compare it to the grander waterparks of Corfu, but Waterland held its own charm, offering a fantastic day out nonetheless. The smaller, more intimate setting allowed for a more relaxed and personal experience, which we all appreciated.
Boat Trip to Sykeas
Our journey continued with a mesmerising boat trip from Provlita to Sykeas. The ancient fort’s historical whispers added mystique to our adventure. The village of Sykeas, with its blend of historic charm and natural beauty, captivated us with its timeless allure. Walking through its narrow streets, we felt like we had stepped back in time. The children were intrigued by the stories of ancient battles and the remnants of old fortifications, making history come alive in a way that no classroom could.
Waterland Waterparks
Waterland in Halkidiki was great fun an an offered a more intimate and relaxed experience while having the usual water park slides, tube runs and other pool it was hard to not compare the waterpark with the one in Corfu which was grander and more extensive. Despite the differences, it was a unique and enjoyable experiences that the kids just loved. Waterland’s charm lay in its family-friendly atmosphere, making it a delightful part of our holiday.
