Yesterday was a proper chill day for us, some R&R while we got organised and booked the next legs of the trip. We’ve now locked in flights and stays for two weeks on Phú Quốc Island (about a one hour flight from Ho Chi Minh City), which looks like absolute paradise, golden sand beaches, adventure parks, water parks and more, after that we’ll spend a week back in Ho Chi Minh to round off our Vietnam adventure. Can’t wait for some beach time and a bit of slower travel!
Today was supposed to be the big one here, we should have been heading up the famous Fansipan cable car to the top of Indochina’s highest peak at 3500m But the weather had other plans storms and heavy rain meant we had to scrap it.
Instead, we made our way down to Sapa town for a wander. The town was cloaked in thick fog and drizzle, which actually added a bit of atmosphere. We laughed when we spotted The Globe newspaper calling Sapa “the city in the fog” or something along those lines pretty spot on and ironic given we were hoping for Mountain View’s today 😉
We had a nice lunch in a decent restaurant and a while later we found a snug little café (Starbucks) to warm up with hot chocolates and coffee, later on we visited sapa market (Georgia was fascinated by all the colourful fabrics and trinkets), and grabbed a few small bits for the girls.
All in all it was quiet but memorable day soaking up the local vibe, we got home wet but satisfied.
Tomorrow is looking like the clearest day we’ll get all week not perfect, but better so we’re aiming to hit the cable car. Rain or shine, we’re going for it… fingers crossed we get at least a glimpse of those epic mountain views!
