A 5;30am start wasn’t great, sorting the kids and dragging our bums out of bed was a challenge but we did it because we knew what was awaiting us…. we were also worried the hype was going to be more than the place it’s self!
Anyhow ignoring that, Imagine stepping into a lost world, where ancient stone paths weave through mist shrouded peaks, and the whispers of the past echo across the valley below. That’s exactly what greeted us at Machu Picchu. The morning rain had washed the air leaving behind a crisp freshness, and as we climbed higher, the sky appeared to open up, revealing the legendary city in all its glory.
If Machu Picchu is on your bucket list, let me tell you no amount of photos or documentaries can truly capture the magic of being there. It’s a place that needs to be felt, where the air hums with history and the mountains seem alive, shifting in and out of view as the mist dances over the peaks it truly is sensory overload!
The morning started grey, with low hanging clouds and a steady drizzle that made the stone steps glisten. Every step felt like a slow unveiling, a gradual build up to something special, it felt like we were stepping into a different era, following in the footsteps of the Inca.
And then, as if the gods had given their blessing, the rain stopped. Sunlight started to brighten the sky occasionally piercing through the clouds, casting golden streaks across the valley. By the time we reached the top, the skies had transformed, unveiling the breathtaking sight we had all been waiting for.

Walking through the ruins, we were surrounded by shifting mist, rolling across the hilltops like something out of a dream. One moment, the towering Huayna Picchu was hidden in a thick white veil, and the next, it reappeared, rising like a guardian over the lost city.
There’s something surreal about standing among the ruins, touching the stones that once formed the heart of an empire. The terraces stretched out before us, plunging down into the valley below, while llamas casually wandered between the walls, unfazed by the steady flow of visitors.
And then there were the viewpoints those jaw dropping moments where you stop, breathe, and take it all in. The kind of views that make you question if what you’re seeing is even real.
If you’ve ever considered visiting Machu Picchu, let this be your sign to stop thinking and start planning. Rain or shine, this place delivers an experience that will stay with you forever. The journey to get there, the climb, the mist, the ruins it all comes together to create something beyond words.
So, are you ready to step into the clouds and witness the magic for yourself? Pack your bags, grab your hiking boots, and go. Machu Picchu is a feeling, a story, a once in a lifetime adventure.
My Tip: Arrive early, embrace the weather, and don’t rush. Machu Picchu reveals itself in layers, and if you’re patient, it will reward you with a show you’ll never forget.
