While the girls and I were having our slow Mansfield day, Ali finally got her big Mount Buller high ropes adventure. The course she’d spotted the day before wasn’t just a quick lap in a harness – it was a full four hours of climbing, scrambling and edging her way around the side of the mountain.
She spent the afternoon clipped into cables, crossing wobbly bridges, edging along narrow ledges and hauling herself up to different peaks, all with those huge High Country views dropping away below. Every so often we’d get a photo pinged through of her grinning in a helmet with the whole valley behind her, looking equal parts tiny and unstoppable.
When she finally made it back she was sun-kissed, exhausted and absolutely buzzing. Her verdict was that it was “unbelievable” and easily one of the best things she’s ever done – the kind of once-in-a-trip experience you grab when you get the chance.

From my side it was pretty special too: the girls and I got a gentle day on the ground, and Ali got to go off and do something huge and brave just for herself. Felt like a good reminder that this trip is for all of us, in our own ways.
