Family travel isn’t always smooth. It can be loud, messy, and a little bit mad. But every so often, you hit a day that makes it all worth it. For us, that was a Phuket island tour, on paper it sounded ok but we were not holding out much hope, it was a three islands, two little girls, one boat, and more fish than we could count. 🐟 🐠
Stop 1: Khai Nai – The Warm Up Act
Big island. Calm waters. The perfect soft start. The girls charged straight into the shallows, squealing and splashing like they’d found paradise bright fish literally swimming at shore line.
We snorkelled out from the beach, watched the chaos unfold, and soaked in those turquoise views it was stunning!
For families, Khai Nai is ideal. Plenty of space, shallow water, and zero stress. Think of it as the warm up before the real show begins.

Stop 2: Khai Nui – Snorkel Comedy Hour
Small island. Huge fun. The second stop had us strapping on snorkels and sliding into some of the most maxing water I’ve ever seen. Schools of colourful fish zipped past like underwater fireworks.
A notable moment was dotty kicking me in the man bits once or twice while kicking away but that’s the beauty of an island tour it’s not just about fish and coral. It’s about the ridiculous, unexpected moments that stick with you forever.

Stop 3: Khai Nok The Shark Surprise
By the time we hit Khai Nok, the girls were water confident pros. More splashing, more giggles. Dotty and myself were just walking in to the weather a little further ahead of Ali and Georgia and there it was. A reef shark. Small, sleek, and gliding past like it owned the place.
Not scary. Not dangerous. Just jaw droppingly beautiful. One of those rare moments where you stop, breathe, and think Wow. This is why we travel.

FAQs About a Phuket Island Tour
Is it family-friendly?
Yep. Life jackets are provided, the waters are calm, and the schedule is just right for kids.
Do you need to know how to snorkel?
Not at all. If you can float, you can snorkel. Even beginners (and snorers, apparently) will love it.
What should you pack?
Reef safe sunscreen, hats, spare clothes, snacks the kids actually eat, and a waterproof camera. Trust me you’ll want proof of those fish (and maybe the shark).
How long does it last?
Around half a day. Three islands, about an hour on each. Enough adventure to wear the kids out without breaking the parents.
What’s the best bit?
That’s the thing every family finds their own highlight. For us, it was a mix of snorkel laughs, giggles in the shallows, and that unforgettable shark sighting.
Final Thoughts
We rode back to Phuket sun kissed, salty haired, and buzzing. We had no sandy tantrums this day but we had wet towels, and tired little legs and that’s the point. The chaos of the journey is part of the story.
What you really remember are the laughs, the colours beneath the water, and those moments that take your breath away. Like a shark gliding past. Or your kids doubled over because Dad can’t snorkel quietly.
Thinking of booking a Phuket island tour?
Do it. Pack the snorkels, grab the sunscreen, and get ready for a day of adventure your family will talk about forever.
