We set out early in the morning, driving through the quiet streets of Wichit until we reached a small, peaceful lane just a short stroll from the water. Parking up, we walked a few hundred metres down the road with only the odd passing scooter, until the bay opened up before us.
The beach is a bit out of the way means that whilst it’s still popular, it’s not a massive tourist destination and having a car or a scooter is the ideal way to get there, some buses run to their but generally they go to ones near other main areas. It means it’s peaceful for most of the year regardless.
Wichit Beach isn’t wide, but it stretches generously along the coast, a serene strip of soft, golden sand bordered by calm blue waters. The beach was nearly empty no crowds, no noise just the gentle hum of the sea and the occasional rustle of wind through the trees.
The water was warm like a bath, and the waves rolled in gently, enough to bob around in but still safe for the kids. We spent the morning digging holes and building sandcastles, shaping little rivers and moats. Dotty floated in the shallows, giggling as the waves carried her up and down in her floaty, while Georgia swam out confidently, diving through the swells and chasing the sun’s shimmer on the surface.
The sun stayed out all morning, casting that classic Thai glow across the bay and warming our backs as we played and paddled. It felt like one of those simple, perfect mornings no plans, no pressure, just family, sunshine, and sea.
After packing up, brushing off the sand and soaking up one last view of the bay, we grabbed a casual lunch from a beachside place nearby nothing fancy, but just what we needed.
By early afternoon, the heat had crept in, so we headed home. Dotty was tired in the car, Georgia was talking about all the fun she had despite not wanting to go in the morning, and we all felt that salty, sun drenched kind of tired. We closed the day with a movie afternoon, cold drinks in hand as the day slowly faded outside.
One of those days that doesn’t look much on paper but we really enjoyed it!
